Gerald Businge is an award-winning Multimedia Journalist, communications specialist and ICTs specialist in Uganda. He is a Lecturer of Multimedia Journalism and Digital Communications at Makerere University’s Department of Journalism and Communication, and Managing Director of Ultimate Multimedia Consult & Yaaka Digital Network. Having started a career in 1999 as a radio reporter, leading newspaper Features Writer, Businge has more than 23 years’ experience in media & Communications consulting, ICTs projects design, capacity building training, documentation, knowledge capture and knowledge management as well as creation and adoption of relevant information and communication technologies for development. Gerald Businge is one of the two African Representatives in the Digital Development network, a consortium of academicians and development practitioners coordinated by Sheffield University to study the role and issues of technology in development. He has trained and consulted in Uganda, Kenya, Rwanda, South Sudan, Malaysia, Yemen, South Africa, United Kingdom, Zambia and United States of America.
Education:
Businge graduated with Bachelors Degree of Mass Communication from Makerere University in 2003 and a Masters in Journalism at University of California, Berkeley (2010). He has attended more capacity building trainings in newspaper journalism, radio journalism, digital journalism, social media organizational communications, information and knowledge management, web design/ optimization, research & documentation.
Experience Record:
In addition to practicing journalism in both radio, newspaper and online agencies, Businge has undertaken ICTs project design and implementation, research and communication training, communications consultancy, monitoring and capacity building work for many top level organisations including UNICEF Uganda, UNDP, FAWE, Oxfam, National Democratic Institute, Enabel, European Union, CAADP, African Union, BRAC, Foundation for Human Rights Initiative, among others. He was also the National Coordinator of the Action for Transparency Project, a SIDA funded initiative that builds and promotes catalytic digital tools for fighting corruption and mismanagement of public funds in the education and health sector. Businge is also a certified trainer of DW Akademie, World Bank, Hague Academy, and Internews Europe. He is the lead developer and Managing Director of www.yaaka.cc a multi-award-winning digital learning platform (web app, offline app and custom tablet computer).
